Prison Chapel Ministry
The prison environment is a dark and hopeless place, where prisoners face violence, anger, gangs and loneliness every day. Prisoners are often isolated and they live without friends and family, usually staring at the prison walls and bars feeling guilty with burning anger inside their hearts. Regardless of the behaviour that put them behind bars, prison inmates are still God’s creation; just as God continues to reach out to each of us even when we don’t deserve His love.
Every week we step into this darkness to hold chapel services at various facilities for Manitoba Corrections. Ministering through song, discussion and biblical messages, inmates learn they are worthy of God’s love and forgiveness: no matter who they are or what they have done in the past. To know they are forgiven and know they are loved is often truly a life changing, and often life saving experience.
There are many challenges to prison ministry, but the rewards are tremendous. It is difficult to explain, but it is common when leaving a facility to say: “I got more than I gave today!”.
Our guarantee is recorded In Galatians 6:9, “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up”.
